We’re getting older, we’re living longer, and we’re changing what it means to age. We’re also entering new territory. How do we plan for longevity, what does it mean to age well, and how can we - and those we love - live safely, securely, and independently for as long as possible?
We believe true retirement readiness is about more than savings and investments. It’s about living - and aging - well. A comprehensive plan needs to address longevity, health care, and end of life - as moments that matter for you, your family, and your finances. We believe your plan is most secure when your aging loved one’s plans are too. That’s why it’s critical to think and talk about the decisions that may be around the corner for you and your family.
Doug Towill, BComm, MBA - Senior Vice President, CI Investments Inc.
Canada is turning gray, with the number of people aged 65 and older expected to nearly double by 2050. This major demographic transition has implications for the economy, government programs such as Old Age Security, and families across Canada. Among adults with at least one parent 65 or older, nearly three-in-ten already say that in the preceding 12 months they have helped their parents financially. Over 60% report assisting a parent with personal care or day-to-day tasks. In his session, Doug will dig deeper into these statistics, and highlight why personal and estate planning provides a unique opportunity for caregivers of aging parents.
